About your practitioner

Dr. Maureen Tetelman has been a holistic healthcare provider since 2001. She earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine and her Masters In Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture. She is a licensed acupuncturist in New York and Vermont and is Nationally Board Certified (NCCAOM Diplomate). Maureen is also a Nutritional Therapy Consultant, a Certified Massage Therapist, and an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).

Maureen earned her Doctorate in Acupuncture from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in San Diego, CA in 2018. This doctoral program is focused on the integration of eastern and western medicine including studies in advanced evidence-informed practice, biomedical diagnosis, preventative medicine and public health, integrative case management, healthcare systems, research design and statistics, and practice-based learning.

Maureen earned her Masters In Acupuncture from Tri-State College of Acupuncture in New York City, NY in 2004. This program in Acupuncture is known worldwide for its blend of Eastern and Western approaches to healing. Some of the styles learned and now utilized in Maureen’s practice are: Acupuncture Physical Medicine- a style created by Dr. Mark Seem, using needles to release trigger-points to unblock constrictions in the body, Kiiko Matsumoto’s Japanese-style diagnosis and treatments based on the holistic system of the Hara (abdominal palpation), and Traditional Chinese Medicine, focusing on the meridians and their accompanying energetic organ systems. During her Master’s studies, Maureen completed her clinical externship at Riverside Church in Manhattan, serving the local community.
Maureen has received multiple post-graduate certifications. Amongst her most impactful was becoming a NADA trained practitioner from Lincoln Recovery Center in the South Bronx (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association). This training focused on serving clients’ who had significant drug and chemical dependency challenges. Maureen also received training through Acupuncturists Without Borders’, Healing Community Trauma, which was used to treat victims of Hurricane Sandy. She later served on Acupuncturists Without Borders’ Board.
Maureen completed her certification as a Nutritional Therapy Consultant in 2016 from the Nutritional Therapy Association in Olympia, WA. This approach to health through nutrition is based on a eating a properly prepared, whole-foods diet and assessment through the Foundations: Diet, Digestion, Blood Sugar, Fatty Acids, Minerals and Hydration. Additionally, she has studied Asian dietary philosophy, Macrobiotics and incorporates multiple philosophies in her approach to food therapy.
Maureen became a Certified Massage Therapist in 2001 from Health Options Institute in Northampton, PA. At this school and through additional trainings, she learned modalities such as: Deep Tissue, Swedish, Sports Massage, Shiatsu, Thai Massage, Reflexology and Aromatherapy and Reiki.
Throughout her career, Maureen has practiced in movement studios, spas, integrative medical centers, and community settings and is now focused on her Private Practice. Her practice, Acupuncture Bodywork PC, which specializes in pain management, is located near Bryant Park in NYC. She also has a seasonal practice in Fire Island, NY (DBA: Fire Island Acupuncture). She specializes in Sports and Musculoskeletal conditions. Additionally she treats a range of conditions including respiratory, digestive issues and psychosocial issues. Maureen works with a diverse clientele and is comfortable treating a variety of conditions. She uses an integrative approach in her treatments to address her patients’ needs by effectively combining acupuncture, bodywork, nutrition and adjunctive holistic healing modalities.

Ultimately, Maureen believes that the body has an immense healing potential when given just what it needs. She utilizes an evidence-informed mindset in her practice: clinical experience and modern research in synergy for best treatment outcomes.
