FAQ

The human body is a complex bioelectric system capable of self-regulating and healing. In this system we have energetic pathways carrying the life force called chi (Qi). Along each pathway are specific points in which energy can be stimulated most effectively. By using different combinations of these points we can improve the flow of energy and unblock constrictions, therefore restoring balance and harmony within the body.

It is generally painless, though you may feel some distention, cramping or tingling around the area. These are all good indications that “de qi” or the energy is circulating. After the needles are in place, you will generally feel very calm and relaxed and you may even fall into a restful sleep.

The benefits of acupuncture are many. It is beneficial as preventative medicine, general well-being and stress reduction. It is also used for acute and chronic conditions, especially those in which western medicine has had no success in treating. Many also find it to be a form of meditation and self reflection.

Sports/Orthopedic &  Musculoskeletal pain conditions

Dr. Maureen specializes in treating athletes, orthopedic issues and overall musculoskeletal conditions that cause pain and dysfunction within the body.  Whether you are an athlete, weekend warrior, or someone who lives with chronic pain, she can often help relieve your discomfort and get your muscles to fire appropriately, creating more balance in your stride.

Microneedling

Microneedling is the use of a machine that delivers tiny needles into the skin repeatedly, with a stamp-like sequence. It creates a controlled micro injury to the skin, thus inducing a wound healing cascade. Part of that cycle causes the skin to produce more collagen and elastin, and essentially creates “new skin”. It is beneficial for diminishing fine lines, wrinkles, acne and other scars and rejuvenates the skin’s overall appearance while increasing collagen production.

This procedure can be done every 6 weeks, for a series of 3-6 treatments or regularly for maintenance, depending on desired results.  It has been extensively researched and is fast becoming one of the most talked about procedures among dermatologists and plastic surgeons. It is recommended to maintain your skin’s health and appearance, used both as a preventive and rejuvenative treatment.
